ABOUT LISA
I began taking private Pilates sessions after the birth of my first child. While it kept my sciatica in check and mind free from the stresses of being a first-time mother, I found myself obsessed with a new(er) type of workout. I’ve always enjoyed the endorphins from running and the muscles from weight lifting, but this was completely different. I noticed the meditative state I took on while intently listening to the cues of the instructor and the questions I catalogued for my google searches later. Ie, “what are my hip flexors”
In 2010, I embarked on a life changing journey in both my personal and professional life. After working in the financial sector, I would start my new job as a Pilates instructor. I earned my Pilates Mat/Apparatus certification in 2011 (PhysicalMind Institute) and taught at a Pilates studio, fitness center, and at DePaul University. Teaching on the mat was a whole different experience from teaching on the reformer, as was teaching people of advanced age versus college students. All of these experiences gave me the knowledge and appreciation for movement and the building blocks to get there.
My thirst for more knowledge came in 2016 when I was offered a job and began training with Club Pilates as a Master Trainer. This experience allowed me the opportunity to travel within the organization and educate the next generation of Pilates instructors. It was here where I learned the joy in transformation of bodies AND minds. While we all may not think alike or learn the same way, we also don’t move with the exact same patterns. These patterns can cause asymmetries in the body which can lead to inefficient muscle activation. This can present as a limitation in range of motion, flexibility and sometimes pain.
Based on my passion for identifying movement patterns in the bodies of my students and clients, my goal is to teach people how to recognize their own patterns no matter where they are in their fitness abilities. This led me to pursue my certification as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM-CES) in 2023.
Ultimately intentional movement makes us feel stronger in the long run and sets us up for optimal MOBILITY and my goal is to teach U how to use your MIND and BODY for healthier, more efficient movement. This will afford you a healthier body to continue doing the things you love and create the lifestyle you desire!
